From the first structure, built for the Governor of Montreal in 1705, to today’s Museum, the Château Ramezay has played an important role in the history of our city. It has survived many changes to Old Montréal with a front-row seat on key events.
The Governor’s Garden is a unique example of an 18th century French colonial garden. Discover the diverse colours and scents of this peaceful oasis in the heart of Old Montreal. From the terrace, enjoy the panorama of greenery which changes with the seasons. The terrace has an awning and protective curtains which can be closed in intemperate weather.

The Château Ramezay’s seven permanent exhibition rooms invite you to learn more about the history of Montréal, Québec and Canada, from indigenous pre-history right up to the 20th century. You can time-travel back to the 18th century in the sumptuous Salle de Nantes, whose carved mahogany panelling once graced the headquarters of the Compagnie des Indes.
